HIGHLAND COW ADVENTURE IN NATURE

FOR DREAMERS, EXPLORERS, AND HIGHLAND COW LOVERS

WALK. BREATHE. CAPTURE.

WHERE CITY ENDS AND NATURE BEGINS

There is something truly magical about Scotland’s wild hills, open skies, and the gentle presence of Highland cows wandering through the fields.

Just outside the busy city, the Pentland Hills open up into a quiet, breathtaking world — and I cannot wait to share it with you.

Our walk is not just about the views (although they are amazing!), or the chance to meet the famous Highland cows (although they are even more beautiful up close).

It is about slowing down, breathing in the fresh air, feeling the wind in your hair, and creating memories you will carry home forever.

We will wander through my favourite hidden trails — from the cosy cottages of Swanston Village, up into the rolling green hills with incredible views over Edinburgh. Along the way, I will gently capture natural moments with my camera, so you can simply enjoy the adventure.

This is a relaxed, fun, real experience — perfect for couples, families, solo travellers, and anyone who wants to feel a little bit closer to the heart of Scotland.

YOU DESERVE A SCOTTISH ADVENTURE THAT YOU WILL NEVER FORGET.

What you'll do

Highland Cow Photo Walk in Edinburgh’s Pentland Hills | Family-Friendly Experience

Join me for a real Scottish experience just outside Edinburgh. We will start in Swanston Village, a hidden gem with stone cottages and a quiet golf course. From there, we will walk towards the famous Highland cows, up close in their fenced field, perfect for amazing memories.

Our 3 km walk takes us through open hills, past green fields, and, if we are lucky, we might also spot wild Highland cows roaming freely and Pentland ponies grazing in the distance. No crowds, just fresh air, wide views, and real Scottish countryside life.

We will stop at a beautiful viewpoint where you can see Edinburgh stretching out below us. It is the perfect moment to breathe, enjoy the open space, and take in Scotland’s natural beauty.

Along the way, I will use my professional camera to capture relaxed, natural photos of your experience. Five edited digital images are included in the price, and you will have the option to upgrade your gallery if you wish.

The route is easy to follow, with gentle hills and big views—perfect for anyone who loves a little adventure, nature, and unforgettable Scottish moments. The full experience takes about one hour.

Slow Down. Look Around. Feel Scotland.

SCOTTISH WEATHER: PART OF THE ADVENTURE

Scottish weather can be full of surprises — one minute sunny, the next a little wild. But we do not cancel this experience unless conditions are truly unsafe.

Since this walk takes place in the lower part of the Pentland Hills, we are able to carry on even if it rains or the wind picks up slightly.

We may adjust our path a little to stay comfortable and safe, but the adventure will always go ahead. Scottish weather is unpredictable, but that is part of the experience.

As long as you bring the right layers and an open heart, you will have a beautiful time to remember — rain or shine.

FRIENDLY NOTE:

This adventure is best suited for children aged 12 and over due to the hill’s steep and rocky terrain. It is a more challenging walk and may not be suitable for younger children.

That said, every family is different — if you feel your child is up for it, feel free to message me. I am always happy to chat and see what might work best for you.

To keep things relaxed and enjoyable, we can add extra time if needed for a slower pace. Additional time can be added at £100 per hour.

FAQ

How long is the experience?

About 1 to 1.5 hours, covering 3 km at a gentle pace.

Do we definitely see Highland cows?

We usually do! The cows are often in a fenced area near Swanston Village. While we cannot guarantee how close they will be, they are often visible and easy to photograph from a safe distance.

Please remember — they are gentle but wild animals, and we always keep a safe distance and never approach them too closely.

What should I wear?

Good walking shoes or boots with grip are essential due to the uneven and sometimes slippery paths. Please also bring a waterproof jacket, warm layers, and clothing suited to the season and weather.

Is it difficult?

It is a gentle walk, with some slight uphill parts, suitable for most people with a basic fitness level.

Is it suitable for children?

This experience is best suited for children aged 12 and up who are comfortable walking 3 km on rocky, uneven paths.

Younger children are welcome, but please note that we may need to slow the pace and add extra time to keep the walk enjoyable and relaxed for them. In this case, an additional fee of £100 per extra hour may apply to allow enough time for breaks, photos, and rest.

Please message me in advance if you plan to bring small children, so I can help you decide what works best for your family.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes, dogs are welcome! They must be on a lead near livestock. Please let me know if your dog is joining so I can plan accordingly.

What if the weather is bad? Will the session be cancelled?

There is no such thing as bad weather in Scotland — just the wrong clothes! We will go ahead in most conditions, including light rain, overcast skies, or chilly days. These are all part of the Scottish experience.
The only reason we would cancel or adjust the route is strong wind, especially if it is unsafe in higher areas. In that case, I will offer an alternative route or reschedule if needed. I will always be in touch on the day if a change is required.

Can I combine this with a city photoshoot?

Absolutely yes — I love this!
If you would like to explore both the quiet hills and the charm of Edinburgh’s Old Town, I can create a custom package for you with a special multi-session discount.

We can plan it all in one day or split it across two days for a more relaxed experience.
It is completely up to you. Just let me know what feels right for you when you book.

How do I get there?

I will send you clear directions and Google Maps link once you book.
I there a parking? Yes — we meet at a free car park next to Swanston Village.

How do I book a session with Dorota?

Simply send me a message with your preferred date, number of people, and any notes about your group.
To secure your booking, I kindly ask for a £100 deposit, which will be deducted from your final total. Once the deposit is paid, I will confirm your session and send a short guide to help you prepare.

Can’t decide between the city’s charm and the hills’ calm?

Couple walks hand in hand through historic stone town streets at sunset.

City

Explore the heart of Edinburgh. Let us walk through the quiet streets and beautiful corners of the Old Town, and capture natural, relaxed moments along the way.

Hiker pauses on scenic dirt trail winding through rolling hills and rugged terrain on cloudy day in Scotland.

Nature

Step into the hills. Slow down, take in the views, and enjoy a peaceful adventure just outside the city — surrounded by nature and fresh Scottish air.

CAN’T DECIDE? MANY FAMILIES AND COUPLES CHOOSE BOTH — THE CITY AND THE HILLS — TO TELL THE FULL STORY OF THEIR TIME IN SCOTLAND.

If you are thinking about booking two experiences, just message me for a custom price — I offer a special multi-session discount for those who want to explore both sides of Scotland with me.

Planning a Trip to Scotland?

If you are visiting Edinburgh and looking for something a little more special — something peaceful, personal, and truly Scottish — this Highland Cow Adventure in the Pentland Hills is a perfect way to slow down and breathe.

I work with many families who want to experience more than just the usual city tours. This is not a busy tourist attraction. It is calm, open, and real. You will walk gentle trails, see beautiful views, and meet Highland cows in their quiet countryside home — just minutes from the city.

Want the best of both worlds? You can also combine this with a photoshoot in Edinburgh’s Old Town — a mix of cobbled streets, iconic landmarks, and hidden corners. Many of my guests love booking one city session and one nature session for a full experience of what Scotland has to offer.

If this sounds like something your family would enjoy, just send me a message (here). I will be happy to help you plan your day and make your time in Scotland truly unforgettable.
