Arthur’s Seat is one of my favourite places in Edinburgh and somewhere I never get tired of coming back to.


Right in the heart of the city, Holyrood Park gives us open space, beautiful views over Edinburgh and plenty of different paths to explore.

This private Arthur’s Seat photo walk is not about rushing to the top. We will walk at a comfortable pace, stop when something catches our eye and take photographs naturally along the way.


Every walk is a little different. Sometimes we have beautiful soft light, sometimes wind, mist or dramatic Scottish skies. We choose the route together, depending on the weather, how much walking you would like to do and what feels right on the day.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Where We Meet


We meet at the entrance to Holyrood Park, just a short walk from the Royal Mile and many central hotels. Once your booking is confirmed, I will send you clear directions and a simple Google Maps link so everything feels easy on the day.

The Walk & The Experience


This feels more like a walk with a friend than a formal photo session. We move at a comfortable pace, stop often, and shape the route around the weather and how you feel on the day. There is no pressure to reach the summit. The experience is about enjoying the hills, the open views, and the fresh air — not pushing yourself. We take photos naturally along the way, with gentle guidance when needed.

Who This Is For


This photo walk is perfect for couples, proposals, engagements, anniversaries, families and solo travellers visiting Edinburgh who would love something a little different from a traditional city photoshoot.

You do not need to be experienced hikers or feel confident in front of the camera. We take our time, choose a route that feels comfortable and enjoy the walk together.

Arthur’s Seat can feel different every day — the wind, light, and visibility can change quickly.

That is why we choose the route that makes sense on the day, always with comfort first.

Lower paths of Holyrood Park


These are the more sheltered paths at the bottom of Arthur’s Seat.

They are perfect on windier days or when you prefer an easier walk. We stay closer to the city, enjoy open space and beautiful backgrounds, and still get lovely views without going higher up.


This option works especially well for families, younger children, and anyone who wants a relaxed outdoor walk.

Viewpoints without the full climb


Around Arthur’s Seat there are several beautiful viewpoints that do not require a full climb to the summit.

We can walk towards areas near St Anthony’s Chapel ruins and nearby cliffs, where we can enjoy beautiful views over Edinburgh without doing the full climb.


This is a great choice if you want dramatic views without a demanding walk.

Arthur’s Seat with a flexible plan


If the weather feels right and everyone is comfortable, we can walk higher up Arthur’s Seat.

There is never any pressure to reach the summit — the plan is always flexible. We stop often, adjust the route if needed, and focus on enjoying the experience rather than ticking off a destination.

FAQ

How challenging is the Arthur’s Seat experience?

Arthur’s Seat can be steep in places, but we do not have to do the full climb. The full circular route is usually around 4–5 km, but your photo walk can be shorter and we will choose a route that feels comfortable for you.

If you are visiting with children or you prefer an easier walk, we stay on the lower paths of Holyrood Park and still get beautiful views.

Do we have to reach the summit?

Not at all.
The photo walk is not about reaching the summit. It is about enjoying the views, fresh air, and the experience itself. Some of the most beautiful photos happen well below the top.

What if the weather is windy or cold?

Arthur’s Seat is more exposed than the city and can feel much windier.
If the wind or weather makes the higher paths uncomfortable, we can stay on the lower, more sheltered paths of Holyrood Park and adjust our plans if needed. Sometimes we also combine the walk with a nearby city area so the experience stays enjoyable.

Is Arthur’s Seat suitable for families and children?

Yes — as long as it feels right for your family. Arthur’s Seat can work well for families with children, but this photo walk is always flexible and never about reaching the summit.

We move at a relaxed pace, take breaks, and adjust the route on the day. If the climb does not feel right, we stay on the lower paths of Holyrood Park, which are beautiful and much gentler.

If you are bringing a baby or a very young child, a baby carrier is a much better option than a pushchair for the routes I normally use.

What should we wear for the Arthur’s Seat experience?

Comfort comes first. Arthur’s Seat is open and exposed, and the wind can feel much colder than in the city, especially at the top.

In autumn and winter months, I strongly recommend layers, including a hat, scarf, and gloves. We warm up while walking, but once we stop for photos, the wind often feels very cold. I always bring my own hat and gloves — it really makes a difference.

In spring and summer, it is usually much more comfortable, but a light windproof jacket is still a good idea, even on a bright day.

Comfortable walking shoes are essential. This is not a technical or difficult hike, but trainers or proper walking shoes will make the experience much more enjoyable.

Where do we meet for the Arthur’s Seat experience?

We agree on the meeting point together in advance.
Before the walk, I send you the exact location via Google Maps.

WE FEEL A LITTLE SHY IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA. IS THAT OKAY?

Completely. Most people tell me this before their session. Being outdoors often helps people relax because the focus is on the experience rather than the camera. I keep things easy and natural, with very gentle guidance whenever needed.

Can we buy more photos or upgrade to the full gallery?

Yes.
The Arthur’s Seat Experience includes a set number of images, with an option to upgrade to the full gallery after viewing your photos. There is no need to decide in advance.

Do you offer sunrise or sunset experience at Arthur’s Seat?

Yes, sunrise and sunset photo walks are possible and can be truly special. These sessions are always planned with flexibility, as weather, wind, and daylight hours in Scotland change quickly. If conditions are not right, we adapt the route or timing to keep the experience enjoyable and comfortable.
