RELAXED FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY IN EDINBURGH, OUTDOORS OR IN THE COMFORT OF YOUR HOME

Are you looking for relaxed family photographs without stiff posing or pressure? I would love to photograph your family in a way that feels natural, comfortable and true to you.

Some sessions take place outdoors in beautiful Edinburgh locations, others happen at home where everyone already feels relaxed and settled. Whether you are planning a maternity session, spending time with your newborn, or simply want updated family photographs together, every session is shaped around your family and your pace.

Children do not need to sit perfectly still or smile at the camera the whole time. We talk, walk, cuddle, play and take things slowly when needed. I gently guide you along the way while leaving space for real moments to happen naturally.

Alongside relaxed family portraits, I also photograph the little in-between moments you will want to remember years from now — the way your children look at you, the laughter, the cuddles and simply being together.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Where We Meet

Most family, maternity and newborn sessions take place at home or in a meaningful outdoor location. Some families love the comfort of home, especially with a newborn or little children. Others choose a favourite beach, woodland walk, park, or somewhere connected to their family story. Once we plan your session together, I will help guide you with location ideas and send you everything you need before the session.

The session

These sessions are relaxed and natural. We take things slowly, follow your family’s pace, and leave space for real moments to happen naturally. I gently guide when needed, but I never expect children to sit perfectly still or smile at the camera the whole time.

Alongside natural moments and connection, I also create a few relaxed portraits that will look beautiful printed at home. The experience is calm, flexible and focused on capturing your family as you are right now.

Who This Is For

These sessions are perfect for families, maternity photography and newborn sessions for parents wanting natural photographs without heavy posing or pressure.

Whether you are expecting your first baby, welcoming a newborn, updating family photographs, or simply wanting to remember this stage of life together, the goal is always the same — relaxed photographs that feel honest, warm and personal.

Family Gatherings & Celebrations

Whether you are planning a birthday, anniversary, family gathering, graduation, or simply want to capture your family together at this stage of life, these sessions are relaxed, natural and shaped around the people who matter most to you.

Sessions can take place at home, at your accommodation, outdoors in Edinburgh, or in a meaningful location connected to your family story. Alongside relaxed group photographs, I also capture the smaller moments, family connections and natural interactions that often become the most treasured memories later on.

There is no rush or pressure. We plan everything around your family, your pace and the atmosphere you would like to create together.

FAQ

What is the difference between a photoshoot and a photo walk experience?

A photoshoot is usually based around one main location and feels a little slower and more settled. These sessions work beautifully for family photography, maternity, newborn sessions, family gatherings, couples, or relaxed portraits at home, outdoors or somewhere meaningful to you. There is more focus on connection, portraits and spending time together while still keeping everything natural and relaxed.

A photo walk experience is designed more for travellers and visitors exploring Edinburgh and Scotland. Instead of staying mostly in one place, we gently walk from one beautiful location to another, enjoying the city and different backgrounds along the way. The experience feels relaxed and natural, with very light posing and lots of movement, atmosphere and real moments as we explore together.

Where do sessions take place?

Sessions can take place at home, outdoors around Edinburgh, at a favourite park, beach, woodland walk or another meaningful location connected to your family story.

How long does a session last?

Most sessions last between one and two hours depending on the type of session, location and pace of the day. There is always flexibility built in, especially with children.

What should we wear?

I always recommend comfortable clothing that feels like you. Neutral and earthy tones photograph beautifully and help keep the focus on your family connection rather than matching outfits.

Can grandparents or extended family join?

Absolutely. Family gatherings and multi-generation sessions are always welcome. The Memory Collection is especially designed for larger family groups and longer two-hour sessions, giving us plenty of time for relaxed group photographs, smaller family combinations and natural moments together without rushing.

What if we feel camera shy or not used to having photos taken?

That is very common, and nothing to worry about.
Most people tell me this at the beginning. The session feels more like spending time together than a photoshoot, and after a few minutes, you usually forget about the camera completely.

WHAT HAPPEN IF MY CHILDREN DO NOT BEBAVE ?

Parents often worry about the little ones playing up and the shoot being a disaster, but I’ve photographed many families, and we’ve always got some lovely shots.
My most extensive advice is to avoid asking children to smile at the camera and threats to behave themselves, have fun, be silly with the kids, and work with me to get natural smiles! Distracting them with tickles or funny games tends to work better than telling them off….and certainly, it’s worth relaxing any standard rules you’ve got for the hour of the shoot.

I’ve got two unruly little girls myself so that I won’t be judging parenting skills ;)

What happens if the weather is bad?

Scottish weather changes quickly, so I always keep an eye on the forecast before the session. Light rain, mist or clouds can actually look beautiful in photographs, but if the weather becomes too difficult, we can adjust the plan or move the session.

Can we buy more photos or upgrade to the full gallery?

Yes.
Keepsake Collection include a set number of images, with an option to upgrade to the full gallery after viewing your photos.
The Story & Memory Collection already includes the full edited gallery, so no upgrade is needed.

Do you work on weekends?

I primarily work from Monday to Friday. However, I'm happy to accommodate special requests for Saturday and Sunday sessions. Please note that there is an additional fee for weekend appointments.

Feel free to reach out if you have any specific preferences or questions regarding weekend availability.

How do I book a session with Dorota?

Simply send me a message with your preferred date, number of people, and any notes about your group.
To secure your booking, I kindly ask for a £100 deposit, which will be deducted from your final total. Once the deposit is paid, I will confirm your session and send a short guide to help you prepare.
