Edinburgh Photo Walk Experience: A Relaxed Way to Explore the City
One of the most personal and relaxed things to do in Edinburgh for couples and families visiting the city
If you are visiting Edinburgh and want more than just quick phone photos, a photo walk is one of the best ways to experience the city.
Instead of rushing between landmarks or trying to organise photos yourself, you walk through Edinburgh at a natural pace, stop in the right places, and enjoy the views while everything is captured for you.
It is not a formal photoshoot and not a typical tour.
It is a simple, well-planned experience that lets you explore the city and come away with natural, relaxed photos from your trip.
What is a photo walk ?
A photo walk is a private walking experience through Edinburgh, designed around your visit.
We move through a few locations instead of staying in one place. Along the way, I guide you through the route, suggest where to stop, and take photos naturally without interrupting the flow of your walk.
You do not need to pose or know what to do.
Most people feel unsure at the beginning, and that is completely normal. The walk helps you relax, and the photos happen as you go. Each photo walk is slightly different. Some couples prefer a shorter , central route in the Old Town. Some families choose a mix of city and open space, like Calton Hill or Arthur’s Seat.
Before we meet, we decide together:
- where you would like to go
- how much walking feels right
- what kind of atmosphere you prefer
So the experience feels personal, not fixed.
How a Photo Walk Works
Every photo walk is slightly different. It all depends on what you would like to see and what you want to remember from your time in Edinburgh.
Before we meet, we decide everything together. I ask a few simple questions about your plans, your pace, and the kind of places you are drawn to. Based on that, I suggest a route that feels right for you.
Some people want the classic Edinburgh feel — Old Town, narrow streets, historic buildings and views of the Castle.
Others prefer something quieter like Stockbridge, with a more local atmosphere and less crowds.
Some like to mix the city with open space, for example Calton Hill, where you get wide views without a long climb.
And if you are looking for something more open and natural, I also offer a photo walk around Holyrood Park and Arthur’s Seat. It gives you space, fresh air, and beautiful views, without needing to go all the way to the top.
The starting point is always agreed in advance. I send you a clear Google Maps link so it is easy to find, and we choose a location that works best for you. Many visitors prefer to meet near their hotel or Airbnb, which is absolutely fine.
From there, we simply start walking.
We move at a comfortable pace, stop when something catches our eye, and take photos naturally along the way. There is no fixed route and no pressure to rush. If you feel like stopping for a coffee or taking a short break, we do that too.

WHAT PEOPLE OFTEN ASK ME
We are not good in front of the camera
Most people say this at the beginning. You do not need to know how to pose or what to do. We keep things simple and natural, and you quickly forget about the camera.
What if the kids are not cooperating?
That is completely normal. We do not force anything. Walking helps children relax, and we work around their energy instead of trying to control it.
What if the weather is bad?
This is Scotland, so we expect a bit of everything. We adjust if needed, and sometimes wind or light rain actually makes the experience more real and memorable.
What should we wear?
Keep it simple and comfortable. Layers work best in Edinburgh. Avoid very bright logos or busy patterns — neutral colours always look better in photos.
How many photos will we get?
It depends on the option you choose. Some include a smaller number of images, others include the full gallery.
From every walk, I edit a minimum of around 50 photos. You will receive them in a private online gallery within 1–2 weeks.
If you start with a smaller collection, you can always upgrade later once you see your photos.
Let’s Plan Your Experience
If you are planning a trip to Edinburgh and want to experience the city in a more personal way, a photo walk is a simple and natural option.
It is not about perfect photos or following a strict plan. It is about walking through the city, enjoying the moment, and having it captured in a way that feels real. I usually keep a limited number of walks each week to keep the experience relaxed and personal.
If this feels like the right fit for your trip, you can get in touch and we will plan the experience around your stay in Edinburgh.
