Memories at Gleneagles

A Beautiful Place for Your Family Gathering

Gleneagles Hotel is one of the most special places in Scotland for a family break. Set in the soft hills near Auchterarder, with 850 acres of countryside, it feels like its own little world. There are walks, golf courses, pools, a spa, and so many things to do for children and adults.

For many families, a stay at Gleneagles is a once-in-a-lifetime trip. It is where grandparents, parents, and children come together, slow down, and enjoy time with each other. This is why it is such a beautiful place to plan a family photoshoot and bring home more than just phone snapshots – real memories you can keep forever.

Why Gleneagles is perfect for family photos

Gleneagles is often called a “playground for all ages”. You can feel it as soon as you arrive. Children can play, run, and explore, while adults can relax, walk, or enjoy a quiet drink together.

Some lovely spots for family photos around the hotel could be:

The front of the hotel with its grand entrance and long driveway

Open lawns with hills and trees in the background

Little paths around the estate for more quiet, natural moments

Near the play areas or “Little Glen” and “The Den”, where children love to spend time

Every season brings something different.

Spring is fresh and green, summer is full of life and long evenings, autumn brings warm colours, and winter can feel cosy and peaceful.

What a Gleneagles family photoshoot can look like

Your photoshoot can fit around your day, so it does not feel like “another thing” to do. I like to keep it relaxed and simple.

For example, we could:

Meet outside the hotel before lunch or dinner for classic group photos

Take a gentle walk on the grounds and capture natural moments as you chat, laugh, and play

Photograph the children exploring, running, and being themselves

Take a few quieter photos of grandparents with grandchildren, or parents with each child

I always try to mix one or two “everyone looking at the camera” photos with lots of candid moments – hugs, hand-holding, little looks and smiles. This is what you will remember most when you look back.

A little story, not just posed photos

For me, a good family session at Gleneagles is not only about one big group picture. It is about telling a small story of your time there.

It might be:

Your parents celebrating a special birthday or anniversary

A once-in-a-lifetime trip to Scotland with children and grandparents

A family who meets here every few years from different parts of the world

I love to capture small things: the way your child holds your hand, the way grandparents look at the little ones, how everyone laughs together. These “little stories” are what make your Gleneagles memories feel real when you look at the photos later.

Why hire a professional photographer for your Gleneagles stay

You will of course take your own photos during your stay, but hiring a professional photographer lets you all be in the frame together. No one has to stand back and hold the phone.

As an Edinburgh family photographer, I am used to working with big families, children of all ages, and different weather. I gently guide you so you do not feel stiff or posed, and I will help you choose locations around the hotel that feel quiet and natural.

A professional session also means you receive a full gallery of high-quality photos that you can print, frame, or turn into a photo book after your holiday. These are the kind of photos that will still make you smile in ten or twenty years.

A friendly note about packages and travel

For most Gleneagles family gatherings, I suggest choosing my Memory Collection, which is ideal for up to ten people and gives us enough time to capture both group photos and lots of smaller moments.

If you are planning a very large gathering with more than ten people, there is a small extra fee per additional person, and a travel fee from Edinburgh to Gleneagles will be added. I will always explain everything clearly before you book, so there are no surprises – we can choose the best option for your family together.
